DOJ wants Osmeña’s son face court over drug case

The Department of Justice (DOJ) asked the court to compel the son of Genuine Opposition candidate John Henry Osmeña to appear and answer the drug charges filed against him during a preliminary investigation in Cebu. In a one-page order, DOJ Senior State Prosecutor Archimedes Manabat, head of the investigating panel, warned respondent John Gregory Osmeña, former Cebu vice governor, and his co-accused that failure to appear in the investigation will be considered as waiver to present their counter-evidence. The preliminary investigation will be held on April 19 at the Office of the Regional State Prosecutor, Region VII, Palace of Justice, Capitol Site in Cebu City. Aside from Manabat, other members of the investigating panel are Senior State Prosecutor II Juan Navera and State Prosecutor Irwin Maraya. John Gregory, three of his former staff and seven others were accused of violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act in connection with the alleged smuggling of P3.6 billion worth of pseudoephedrine, a shabu ingredient, three years ago. The elder Osmeña earlier claimed Malacañang had a hand in the filing of the complaint. He said it was done to embarrass him after he joined the senatorial slate of the opposition. -GMANews.TV
